ARKLIGHT "Apmonia - Isonomy - Attunement"

Arklight "Apmonia - Isonomy - Attunement" CDR
(TRAPDOOR TAPES TT054)

Damaged junkyard dog noise from Arklight, which as far as I can tell, is the Arklight from New York? In classic noisedad fashion, the disc is spray-painted on and sheathed in a xerox of a demolished house.?Much more alluring is the incredible title of the CDR:

APMONIA - ISONOMY - ATTUNEMENT

These are a string of words found in Samuel Beckett's Murphy which describes a meditation between the extremes of a bursting and seizing heart; one after another, each word replacing the latter as Neary tries to intone Murphy's soul. As an allegory, it seems to fit well with the spasmodic nature of the drums on the recording, which at once drive the tracks forward while drilling underground into vibrous slop canals where everything is slowwwerrr and weirddderrr and more impossible. The final track, "Accumulation of Soot" is perhaps my favorite and features muttered, bashed-in vocals; something similar to a concussed, drunk dogman in the alley talking into bricks about the game last night, but there was no game, just endless night. "Bastion" is also killer and gets savage with cascading 808y bass plomps, messy tornado electronics and feedback. Perhaps this is why the house got so murdered on, yo. Maybe if it had been made of brick. Maybe that's what the dogman was saying all along. The kool creep vibe and the Beckett reference is the difference maker on this release. Will not use as frisbee. Would jam again if on Ambien CR. ---DANIEL LOPATIN (foxydigitalis.com)
